But then once you actually have been there for enough time, you learn the true of cost of living somewhere.

1. Baseline Budget ( this is my Paper Budget )
– If things got really tough, I could follow this

I have 4 main expenses Just like the average person
– Shelter: this 2bed 1 bath apartment is about $160 per month, my rent actually went down, because the power of the US dollar went up ( it used to be nearly 170 )
– Utilities: I don’t pay for Light, I don’t Pay water, but I do pay my internet bill and phone bill ( that’s about $55 for internet and $30 for two internet plans ) = $85
– Groceries: $200 per month ( but I spend a lot more like $500 I would say, eating out and stuff like that )
– Transportation: $250 on gas ( gas is like 300 pesos per gallon that’s like 5.35 a gallon ) It is like 65% cheaper in the US )

The sum of all these Costs:
– It’s about $995 dollar when I spend a lot of money
– And when it is time to cut back I bring it down all the way to $695 dollars

However, keep in mind:
– I’m not married and I live alone
– I don’t live in an expensive part of the island, the rent should tell you that
– And I’m not interested in overspending

2. Things that I like
– The Hired Help here is not that expensive and you
– I have some on come and clean and do my laundry
– I also have someone who meal preps for me once a week

The total cost of this is about:
– $40 for the cleaning and
– $90 bucks for the meal prep

Do you know how much that would cost me in the US

3. Things that I don’t like
– At least where I live, everything is so far away
– Prices on US brands for food are super expensive
– People drive crazy here, and you have to adapt
– Going out at night for a walk isn’t safe ( in my small neighborhood it kinda is but not in the capital )
– You have to learn to negotiate, because everyone is always trying to get you
– If you want to buy stuff from Amazon, you will pay more because of shipping stuff
– Massive Poverty difference, some people literally don’t eat, if you are poor in the US you can’t buy stuff but at least you can eat
– Getting paid for accidents and car insurance can be a hassle

4. Things that I haven’t done but should do

– Get health insurance
– Pay my taxes, which comes early next year

5. Overall what I have learned
– This is Home, and it’s not perfect and I have experience living in many places and I can tell you
– No place is perfect
– But for now, it’s solid
