1. Create your financial goals: Your goals should be specific, measurable & assigned to a timeline. Your goals are about what you want to accomplish for yourself

2. Prepare for tax time: Gather up your paperwork ahead of time to minimize tax-time stress.

3. Boost your emergency fund: Core essentials include housing, food, transportation, core utilities & medicines. Build saving for emergencies into your budget. No savings? Set an initial goal to save $1,000. Leveraging debt? Focus on being mindful of how much debt you take on

4. Add to your retirement plans: Increase contributions by an extra percentage or max your contributions out if possible. It’s important that you put money aside for your future self

5. Increase your income: Examples include side hustles, part-time jobs, selling things you don’t need, looking for a better paying job, etc

6. Check your credit score: Fraud and identity theft have increased as a result of the pandemic. Get credit monitoring. Make sure you are aware of what’s being reported. You are entitled to a free credit report by federal law at annualcreditreport.com

7. Automate your finances to make managing your money easier: Got an inconsistent income? Schedule transfers in advance of when you are expecting income to arrive. Start with one or two things to automate & add on later.

8. Consider life insurance especially if you have dependents who rely on your income.
