(Photo: Courtesy of DoorDash Canada) Restaurants in Brampton and Oakville are just some of the Black-led eateries across Canada to get a $10,000 grant to help grow their businesses. The funds come from DoorDash Canada’s #BlackFoodEnergy program and were handed out to 30 restaurants across Canada, recognized “for their entrepreneurial spirit and impact on local communities, while celebrating and sharing Black cuisine,” according to a release. Rose’s Caribbean Kitchen in Brampton and Oakville Fish & Chips are among the 30 recipients of the $10,000 grants, which will help the restaurants “grow their business, whether by expanding services, hiring more staff or upgrading equipment.” The recipients span provinces from coast to coast and feature cuisines from Nigeria, Guadeloupe, Somalia, and beyond. The restaurants will receive over $10,000 each, in addition to a one-year membership for Restaurants Canada to “further connect culinary professionals with insights and resources that can help their business thrive.” Owner of Oakville Fish & Chips Felicia Jules-Aurelis said the funds will help her business “continue to grow through generations.” “Oakville Fish and Chips has always been much more than a small family-owned business. We are a legacy with over 100 years of heritage,” Jules-Aurelis said in a release. “From generations of passion and expertise, we are proud to provide meals that celebrate our tradition and authentic flavour.” DoorDash Canada says it has provided more than $650,000 to Black-owned and Black-led businesses across the country through the program.
