14 Moving Out Tips In 14 Minutes ( And Mistakes To Avoid )

Moving out sucks, no matter how you do, one your own, with friends or by hiring some people to help you with the process. I’ve moved out. This is going to be my first time moving out, in the last 3 years, so I’ve learned a few things when it comes to moving out. New York to Puerto rico, three times inside Puerto Rico, and now in DR’s first apartment and now getting ready to potentially move out again to my next apartment.

1. Don’t wait until the Last Moment to Move out
– Preboxing everything
– Paying a few extra dollars for rent

2. Use the move to Clean Up things you need
– If you just saw a pair of shoes that you haven’t worn in a long time, or clothes, use this money to give those things away
3. Make sure the Apartment is no more than 33% of your net monthly income, the lower the better
4. Shop for condiments at Walmart, not Costco ( the money adds up )
5. Learn to cook
6. Ask for boxes instead of buying them
– Use your duffle bad and suitcases
– Make sure the boxes you get have handles
7. Most important
– Assemble the bed and sheets first ( once you’re done you can go to sleep )
– Have a box for your bathroom stuff, to set up the minute you get there
– This way you have somewhere to sleep and an organized place for your essential needs
– Then Unpack, Kitchen and lastly living room ( for me it would be the kitchen but the home office is super important )
8. Your last place: Protects your deposit
– Hire someone else to clean it for you, to deliver clean
– Or clean it yourself (it is why its so important to set up a schedule )
9. Number your Boxed by Importance
– Box One : Bedroom
– Box Two: Bathroom
– Box Three: Clothes for 1 week, work and home clothes
– Box Three: Kitchen
– Box Four: Living Room
– And so on, in levels of importance
10. Have 3 months of emergencies
11. Have a Gift Box:
– Things you don’t need
– Or want and cant take
– Things you couldn’t sell
– Friends will thank you
12. Practical Tips:
– Tape Dress Front and don’t take the clothes out
– Move valuables with you in a bag or something
– Use cardboard boxes that are small or shoe boxes and use them to put between pots and bans and plates

Lastly:
– No matter what moving will suck
– It will be stressful
– But this will make it easier
