5 Things I Would Do Differently If I Were 18 Years

A lot of people say, if I could go back I would not change anything. I have used this phrase before and I want to take it back, when I use it, it’s almost like saying that you think the only reason you are where you are is because you are your mistakes, and that’s not true. You got to where you are despite your mistakes not because of your mistakes

1. Recreational Dating ( I wish I would have never done that )
– We live in a world where it’s okay for kid to talk about having a girlfriend
– Where people date with absolutely no intention of getting married
– Where people think you have to kiss a lot of toads before you find your prince ( its all wrong )

The Bible ( doesn’t teach that )
– I wish I would have started dating only when I was prepared to get married
– Not just financially, but emotionally and when I had enough of the truth in my heart to be able to teach
– I would have avoided a lot of mistakes with real consequences

Biggest Lesson: Don’t do what the World does, Do what God says

2. Rejecting God, his Love, and his Law ( I wish I had been a Christian since the day I was born )
– I was a child basically raised by a single mother, the father figure that I had never wanted the actual responsibility of being a father
– And I was lawless for a long time, going about and finding out consequences for myself and using my own twisted moral judgment for my decision-making
– It was terrible

When I made a Decision to Follow Christ
– I started reading the Proverbs and Ecclesiastes
– And I couldn’t believe how the path was so clearly made for me
– But I was rebellious that I refused to see it

Biggest Lesson: Any life without God is a wasted life, no matter the amount of Worldly success you accomplish

3. Valuating Work and Financial Gain over Unreplaceable things ( work and family )
– I grew up during hustle culture when everything was and still is in a sense ( depending on who you talk to, about success and money )
– I remember working without any real need of work, while my biological dad was sick and suffering in the Dominican Republic
– Looking back today, I wish I would have quit my job and gone to stay with my dad for that entire year ( because although I quit my job,it was only after he died )

Even after that:
– I made choices just for the sake of my career and financial gain
– That looking back I would have not made

4. Found a Way to do everything without debt
– If I had eliminated debt as a choice for all of my decisions, I would have been a lot more successful with a lot less risk I think

Some examples:
– Instead of private school and graduating with 21k in debt ( I would have gone to community college and graduated with 0$ debt and a bachelor’s degree from a better school and actual career
– I would have started my business later and built it up better

5. Not reading Enough ( I had no idea self-help books existed until I was like 19 years old )

Bonus: career choice
– I would have gone into teaching most likely, something in the finance light
– I always appreciated my teacher for helping my understand, I didn’t really care what they were teaching me
– But I like teaching ( that’s what I would have focused on )
– And I’m glad I get to do it here
