GUAP NEWS After The Funding Round: Atlanta’s Media Platform Cxmmunity Ready To Expand Its Impact AdminOctober 6, 202504 views Atlanta-based MediaTech startup Cxmmunity recently wrapped up a “six-figure” investment deal from Live Nation Urban, which will help fuel its entertainment and esports empire. At its core, Cxmmunity connects brands to Gen Z and multicultural consumers through “authentic activations, creator-led content, and targeted media” opportunities. Its first-party data platform is designed to help brands, media agencies, and video games publishers navigate the new and evolving media landscape. The investment comes through Live Nation Urban’s Black Lily Capital Investment Fund, created to support Black entrepreneurs in the entertainment space. To date Cxmmunity Media has provided over $2 million to diverse creators through various gaming initiatives. Following the capital announcement, the Cxmmunity team (co-founder Chris Peay and CEO Ryan Johnson), gave us insights into what’s next for Cxmmunity following the funding round. A look at the Cxmmunity team’s Q&A with Hypepotamus can be found here: Question: How did the Cxmmunity team get connected with Live Nation? Why was it important to raise funds now? – We met the LNU team on a panel last year in November. Our founder, CEO Ryan Johnson spoke on a panel at the LNU hosted Lil Weezyana fest (Lil Wayne’s annual festival). For Cxmmunity, we’ve always been looking to change the face of Black Entertainment. We were never a fan of main-stream media’s interpretation and generalization of the Black people in America….we see Black culture not as one, but as a boiling pot of many different cultures, and shared interests. We have places for hip hop, but we don’t for the Anime nerds, gamers, and skaters, so we created a space for that side of the culture to live and what better way to Change the face of Black entertainment than partnering with the largest Black live-event company. Question: In our AI Age, what are the biggest pain points creators and entertainers are facing? – In the AI age, creators are battling three things: authenticity, ownership, and monetization. AI will soon flood the internet with content, but it can’t copy authenticity. The ones who win will double down on personality, transparency, and community, because that’s the value AI can’t replace. Question: Take us back to the start of Cxmmunity. What made you want to launch this type of company? – we originally launched Cxmmunity because we realized that Black youth over-index in gameplay consumption. But we didn’t own anything, or really benefit from that consumption. That idea the birthed the HBCU Esports League, the first-ever competitive esports league for historically Black colleges & universities (HBCU). From where we really jumped into amplifying stories of gamers, and creators shaping the future of media. Question: How do you see the new investment changing Cxmmunity’s work moving forward? – This investment gave us the legs we need to run a bit faster. With the backing of some of the largest Black owned events in the world, we’re able to connect our media engine and control narratives for Black people, and especially Black youth, worldwide. Our roots are in impact over activity, so we know we’ll be able to dive into the nuances of the various tribes of Black people in America. Question: What should people in Atlanta know about Cxmmunity? – Cxmmunity is the leading Black owned media & entertainment company amplifying all things alternative Black culture. Our IP, Trap Sushi, The Kickback, and HBCU Esports League have moved millions and impacted the lives of Black creators worldwide. The first-ever Anime themed Hip Hop Music festival takes place October 18 at Center Parc stadium and we’re hosting The Kickback ft. Kenny Mason on December 10 at Buckhead Theater.
