Angel Reese and Magic Johnson Launch Wealth Playbook for Baltimore’s High School Seniors – urbangeekz

Angel Reese and Magic Johnson have teamed up to launch Wealth Playbook, a new financial literacy program for Baltimore’s high school seniors. 
The initiative is a partnership between the Angel Reese Foundation, the Magic Johnson Foundation, and Pull Up Neighbor, a marketing and advertising firm focused on community outreach.
Wealth Playbook will teach students how to manage money and build long-term wealth.

Wealth Playbook: A Financial Literacy Program For High School Seniors
The four-session program began last week at Saint Frances Academy, Reese’s former high school, in partnership with wealth management giant Merrill Lynch. In the first session, students were taught key financial topics, such as budgeting, understanding credit, and basic money management skills.
“The room was filled with energy, knowledge, and purpose. Students learned about budgeting, credit, and how to take control of their financial futures,” read the organization’s joint Instagram statement. “This isn’t just a program—it’s the start of a movement.”

According to an October 2024 report from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, Black households have a wealth gap of 85% compared to white families and Hispanic households, who have wealth gaps of 78%. 
The wealthiest 80% of Black and Hispanic households own less than the median white household. In 2019, the median wealth for white households was $219,206, while the median for Black households was $27,937.

Angel Reese’s Strong Ties With Her Community
Born and raised in Randallstown, Maryland, Angel Reese has maintained a strong connection with her community and former school. In 2023, she donated $12,000 to support tuition for a student on the girls’ basketball team at Saint Frances Academy— a gesture inspired by her experience receiving similar support during high school.
The Angel C. Reese Foundation was founded in 2023 and focuses on creating opportunities for girls and underrepresented communities through education, mentorship, and sports. Saint Frances Academy has served as the foundation’s launch site and remains central to its mission.
Magic Johnson’s Harnessing Celebrity Influence For Good 
Magic Johnson has long been active in supporting underserved communities. In 1991, he founded the Magic Johnson Foundation to improve access to education, health services, and economic opportunities. Today, his foundation is partly backed by Magic Johnson Enterprises, which invests in initiatives that uplift ethnically diverse urban communities.

According to Forbes, Johnson’s net worth has grown from $40 million in 1991 to $1.5 billion in 2025. Most of his fortune comes from a 60% ownership stake in life insurance company Equitrust, which has grown from $16 billion in assets under management to $27 billion since he took over in 2015.
