Students learned about budgeting, credit, and how to take control of their financial futures,” read the organization’s joint Instagram statement. “This isn’t just a program—it’s the start of a movement.” According to an October 2024 report from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, Black households have a wealth gap of 85% compared to white families and Hispanic households, who have wealth gaps of 78%. The wealthiest 80% of Black and Hispanic households own less than the median white household. In 2019, the median wealth for white households was $219,206, while the median for Black households was $27,937. The Angel C. Reese Foundation was founded in 2023 and focuses on creating opportunities for girls and underrepresented communities through education, mentorship, and sports.
