GET GRANTS Authorities rescue one person during capsized boat operation at Black Butte Lake | News AdminAugust 9, 2025012 views GLENN COUNTY, Calif. – Rescue crews in Glenn County found an elderly fisherman clinging to a tree limb next to his capsized boat on Black Butte Lake Friday. The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office says they began the search for the fisherman around 10 a.m. Action News Now was on the scene when the rescue was completed less than an hour later. The rescue team returned to land as medical personnel checked on the fisherman on the other side of the lake. Sgt. Grant Lemmon said the man was found on the Glenn County side of Black Butte Lake near some shrubs. His 12-foot boat had taken in water, and combined with the winds at the lake, had caused the boat to capsize. Action News Now spoke with the fisherman who asked not to be identified, as he was “embarrassed” about the situation. Off-camera, he told Action News Now that he never felt that his life was in jeopardy. ———————————————————————————- UPDATE AS OF AUGUST 8, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. — GLENN COUNTY, Calif. — The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office told Action News Now that the one person on the capsized boat was rescued around 10:45 a.m. Friday, after a multi-agency response. Officials say that the person was transported to a local hospital. Authorities could not tell Action News Now the extent of any injuries. The cause of the capsized boat is currently under investigation. ———————————————————————————- GLENN COUNTY, Calif. — Rescue efforts are underway Friday morning after officials confirmed with Action News Now that there is a capsized boat on Black Butte Lake. The search and rescue operation began around 10 a.m. The Glenn County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that their agency, CAL FIRE Tehama-Glenn Unit and the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office are currently responding to the scene, actively searching for the vessel as boating units are combing the lake.
