BHM Forth Valley Announces Local Events to Celebrate Black History Month

Black History Month Forth Valley are hosting seven events throughout October to celebrate Black History Month, and calling on local Black Afro-Caribbean artists and business owners to contribute to their events.

The theme of this year’s events is “Standing Firm in Power and Pride”.

The group have extended an invitation to local Black Afro-Caribbean people inspired by the Black and Afro-Caribbean culture to contribute to events, one being “Travelling Creations”. The mobile exhibition will travel across Stirling, Falkirk, and Clackmannanshire, displaying artists’ visual art, film, photography, and mixed media.

The exhibition will be on display at Forth Valley Royal Hospital from 6th – 10th October, Bellfields Centre from 13th – 17th October, and Spiers Centre from 20th – 24th October.

The other event calling for local contributors is “Inspiring Voices”, which invites local Black business owners, entrepreneurs, and students, to share information and lived experiences. It takes place on the 21st of October.

The six other events throughout October include:

  • Interfaith Peace Vigil (4th October)
  • Ama-zing Harmonies Choir (11th October)
  • Messy Art (16th October)
  • Market Day (23rd October)
  • Culture Night (23rd October)
  • Sharing Culture (25th October)

Both events on the 23rd of October will be held at the University of Stirling.

BHM Forth Valley aims to: “create a space for local Black Afro-Caribbean people to share their lived experiences, culture, heritage, and voice with the communities of Forth Valley.”

“We hope to provide an opportunity to reflect on the significant contributions, achievements and resilience of Black individuals and communities throughout history” said Alice,

“It’s a time for us to honour Black excellence and culture, acknowledging the struggles and triumphs that have shaped our shared history.

Celebrating Black History Month is not only an act of recognition but also a chance to deepen our understanding of the ongoing importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

By coming together as a community, we can learn from the past, celebrate the present, and build a future where all cultures are valued and respected.

It’s an opportunity for all of us to reflect, grow, and strengthen the bonds that connect us.”
