Black Cowboy Festival in Oak Park

The Black Cowboys Parade and Festival, held annually on July 27, is an event that celebrates the importance of Black cowboys in American history and showcases Black-owned businesses. The event features live music, food, horseback riding, and vendors. This year’s theme was “Down Home Blues Music Festival” and included artists such as the MDP Group, the Confidence Dance Group, Sunny Blue Bland, Raymond Coates, and more. The event is sponsored by Black-owned companies, including St. HOPE and the Oak Park Neighborhood Association. The founder and CEO of Black Expo Events, Rick Warren, hopes to increase access for young people and expand reach within and increase resources for the local Black community. READ MORE
