GET INSPIRED Black Excellence and Reed Community Foundation hold school supply giveaway | News AdminAugust 3, 2025013 views TULSA, Okla. — Black Excellence and the Reed Community Foundation held a school supply giveaway for kids in the Tulsa area. “This is Black Excellence and Reed Community Foundation partnering together for the community,” said Reed Community Foundation Executive Director Kiki Velasquez. “This is based on education. This is our way of giving back…to our community, showing them some love. They show us so much love that now it’s time for us to show them some love and give back to them and help these parents out. This is saving them some time on getting ready for school—time and money.” The organizations handed out items like backpacks, school supplies and socks along with offering services such as haircuts. Kanadra Holmes with Black Excellence said they want to give kids everything they need to thrive in the classroom. “We’re just here to boost our children up before school starts…We’re feeding 300 children. We’re giving them loaded backpacks, just doing as much as we can to prepare them for the up and coming school year. It’s all about educating our children and when you feel better and you look better, you do better.” Velasquez said she specifically wanted to honor her father Coach Keith Reed— the founder of Reed Community Foundation who recently passed away in 2024—for beginning the foundation that continues to positively impact so many lives.
