The award was created to honor individuals, groups or organizations with an established record of promoting the National Association of Secretaries of State in the areas of elections, civic education, service to state government and a commitment to giving.

“Grant worked tirelessly to ensure Black Hawk County elections were conducted safely, smoothly and with integrity for many years,” Pate said.

Veeder has been with the Black Hawk County Auditor’s Office since 1981, having served as the deputy commissioner of elections before being elected as the auditor in 1988.

Pate also appointed Veeder to his statewide auditors’ advisory group and the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission Standards Board.

“I’m very honored to receive this award, particularly from my good friend Secretary Pate,” Veeder said. “It brings to mind the many committed election professionals it has been my pleasure to know and work with through the years, including staff in the Secretary of State’s Office, county auditors and election staff throughout Iowa and around the nation, and the office staff and precinct election officials in Black Hawk County.”

“I’m proud to be a member of this community of dedicated and very professional individuals,” he continued. “I’m also proud to have served the citizens of Black Hawk County.”
