Black Maternal Health Platform SheMatters Raises $2M For Life-Saving Symptom Tracker App – peopleofcolorintech

SheMatters has recently secured a significant $2 million investment to launch its symptom tracker app.

Founded by Jade Kearney (CEO) and Marguerite Pierce (COO), SheMatters is a pioneering digital health platform dedicated to improving maternal mortality in minority communities.

The Symptom Tracker App

The Symptom Tracker app is a new tool designed to empower expecting and new mothers in tracking vital signs and symptoms associated with serious complications.

These complications could include preeclampsia, eclampsia, and Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes and Low Platelets (HELLP) syndrome.

This technology is especially crucial for Black mothers who face a maternal mortality rate three times higher than their white counterparts.

“In 2024, SheMatters will grow our team and build out our product offering with our symptom tracker leading the way to create real change for Black mothers,” founder Jade Kearney shared in a press release.

She also shared that the company’s product offering will now include the SheMatters Cultural Competence Certification Program designed to reduce Black maternal morbidity.

The Cultural Competence Certification Program

This program trains medical providers to effectively communicate and understand Black patients amid systemic inequality.

Major universities and hospital systems are adopting it, therefore helping providers to better serve minority communities.

Created by Kearney, Pierce, and experts, the certification concentrates on safety, communication, and confronting the legacy of racism in healthcare. 

“I am so proud to be among this select group of leaders and plan to open doors to other women of color looking to make a difference,” Kearney stated.

Black Women Founders Raising Capital

Kearney described raising capital as a Black woman founder as the biggest challenge and greatest success of her career.

This funding achievement for SheMatters, which brings the company’s total raised to $3.5 million, marks a significant step forward in the sector for Black women.

The American Heart Association, The Fund, and The Social Entrepreneurs Fund are all among those who have shown their support.
