While it’s great to be able to do Graphic Design without a computer, you’re not impressing anyone who is going to write you a check for it. If you want to be able to do it for personal crafting projects, great!

You can leverage this if you can become a Packaging Designer, but other than that it’s just something that your professors want to take you through out of a sense of appreciation for craftsmanship, the history of design and nostalgia.

And while that is all well and good, it has no other practical business application. You want to do something that scales? Learn the Business of Graphic Design, Learn to Pitch, Learn to Market, Learn HTML, Learn Print Production. Learning how to use an xacto knife isn’t going to do much for you.

Can I do it, absolutely, has it made me a single cent since college? Nope. Clients aren’t interested, employers aren’t interested, Are you still interested? Let me know in the comments section.
