THE WAY I HIRE GRAPHIC DESIGNERS
Whenever I need to hire a graphic designer I’m looking for what in their portfolio aligns with what I do or if I’m hiring a graphic designer for a client (sourcing vendors) then I think about what that client needs and how much of the graphic designers work matches that.

If you want to get hired as a graphic designer, in addition to your general portfolio you should be customizing a portfolio or presentation/pitch to each client, based on research you’ve done. This is how agencies work, they tailor a presentation to specific type of work they’ve done that is in alignment with the assignment they are being hired for.

When you want to be a graphic designer, pitching your portfolio and organizing it properly is sometimes more important than the caliber of work in the portfolio, depth of experience matters when it comes to employer confidence.
