The Michigan Black Business Alliance, City of Detroit, NAACP Detroit Branch, Detroit Public Schools Community District, Black Leaders Detroit, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and the Eastern Market Development Corporation are excited to announce the Juneteenth Freedom Fest on Sunday, June 16, 2024. This meaningful and free event commemorates the day African Americans in the United States achieved Freedom and emancipation.

“We are excited to bring together partners for the opportunity to celebrate Black culture and liberation at Juneteenth Freedom Fest. The celebration commemorates the day of liberation for African Americans in the United States and, for us, a celebration of Black businesses, Black fatherhood, and Black excellence. Juneteenth Freedom Fest is a reflection of our work, our liberation, our progress, and our future. We are honored to continue to lead the way for this important celebration,” Charity Dean, CEO of Michigan Black Business Alliance, said.

In addition to recognizing this important historical milestone, the festival also celebrates Black entrepreneurship, Black fatherhood, and Black achievements. It is a time to unite the community for a day of remembrance, reflection, and celebration. More than 60 businesses participated in last year’s event, which was attended by over 9,000 attendees. The Black Bottom Row Vendor Market will feature a large-scale pop-up where Black businesses across Michigan showcase their products.

This year, the Juneteenth Freedom Fest celebration will include activities for the entire family, such as live music performances, interactive history exhibits, children’s games and activities, educational workshops, food vendors offering a variety of cuisines, and a vibrant marketplace showcasing local artisans and entrepreneurs.

The festival offers an exciting Kids Zone where children can have a blast with a video game truck, a Detroit Pistons basketball court, bounce houses, and a DPSCD Reading Tent, among other entertaining activities. Meanwhile, the adults can unwind and have a good time in the Grown Zone, sponsored by Tito’s Handmade Vodka. This section provides an excellent opportunity for adults to enjoy a drink and Freedom Fest’s fantastic entertainment.

For Father’s Day, the Detroit Pistons are sponsoring the Cool Dad Award, which will be in honor of Detroit native, NBA champion, Pistons Legend, community ambassador, Loving Father to Sari, and Father Figure for many Earl Cureton. Visit www.juneteenth313detroit.com/ to submit an entry.

There will be live entertainment, with performances on the Main Stage by Kym Brady, The Urban Violinist, SaxxAppeal, LG, The Formula, and the Detroit Lions’ own DJ Ray Ya Dig.

“We are thrilled to support the Juneteenth Freedom Fest again this year. This event is a great opportunity for the community to learn about Juneteenth and its importance and relevance to our history, as well as the work of the NAACP Detroit Branch,” Kamilia Landrum, Executive Director, NAACP Detroit Branch, said.
