Earle’s new grant to increase produce access and nutrition education in local schools

Earle, Ark. (KATV) — The small town of Earle will be on the receiving end of a grant fund set to help address community health through a partnership involving the African American Mayors Association and Healthy America.

Since partnering with American Beverage, the two organizations have awarded grants totaling $2 million to 16 cities and towns since 2022.

“Nutrition access, affordability, and education are cornerstones of a healthy community. That’s why America’s beverage companies are proud to partner with AAMA to support mayors as they work tirelessly to improve the health and well-being of our communities,” said Kevin Keane, president and CEO of American Beverage and president of the ABFHA Board of Directors.

“Our deep congratulations to the winning mayors and their cities on the outstanding efforts. These grants, coupled with delivering choice and information, will help our communities make the best choices for themselves and their families.”

According to a release, the announcement was made during the African American Mayors Association National Conference in Washington, D.C., April 16-18.

“The residents of Earle will greatly benefit from these important funds,” said Earle Mayor Jaylen Smith.

“We will expand our access to fresh produce through local farmers, children in our schools will be exposed to nutrition education, and a new council will examine our needs for the future.”

The town is among 6 other cities to receive an award.
