Ethan Hawke & other key castmembers answer the call to return in The Black Phone 2

More stranger danger is headed your way, horror fans. Reported by Deadline, Joe Hill and horror studio Blumhouse are reuniting for a sequel to their first collaboration, the 2021 box office success The Black Phone.

Based on a short story by the same name, The Black Phone stars Oscar-nominee Ethan Hawke as The Grabber, one of the more disturbingly named and be-masked horror villains in recent memory. After the Grabber abducts young Finney, the boy must survive his ordeal with help of the advice of the ghosts of The Grabber’s previous victims. This he receieves from the titular Black Phone.

According to Deadline, the leads of the first film is also back for more frights; Hawke is returning as The Grabber and Mason Thames as Finney. Also returning are Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora.

While the tale of The Black Phone began as a short story published in Joe Hill’s 2004 collection 20th Century Ghosts, Hill was not the only person credited as a writer for the first movie. Also listed were the film’s director, Scott Derrickson, and Derrickson’s frequent collaborator, C. Robert Cargill. Both creators are confirmed to return for the sequel in the same roles; what’s not clear is whether Hill himself will have a hand in the writing. Per the report, Hill will be serving an executive producer role for the sequel.

The Black Phone 2 is slated to arrived in theaters June 27, 2025. In the meantime, you can stream the first movie (and hey, I think you should) on Peacock.

Plenty of people saw Blumhouse’s Halloween blockbuster, Five Nights at Freddy’s. Popverse’s Tiffany Babb was not among them.
