A new app why?! founded by former Netflix and Clubhouse executives is set to transform the way people connect with meaningful conversations.

Founded by former Netflix and Clubhouse executives Maya Watson and Lexi Nisita, the app addresses the growing issue of shallow social media interactions and the difficulty in maintaining quality relationships. 

According to The Harvard Study of Adult Development, the quality of relationships is crucial for a good life, yet 58% of Americans feel that nobody truly knows them.

$1.65M Pre-Seed Funding Secured

why?! has raised $1.65 million in pre-seed funding from a notable group of investors, including Charles Hudson of Precursor Ventures and Barclays Black Formation Investments managed by Zeal Capital Partners. 

Other investors include Roxann Stafford of Blueprint FTC, Virginie Raphael of FullCircle, Bistro Partners, Shani Taylor of Bain Capital Ventures, Cindy Holland of Sister, and Mohammad Almalkawi of Clubhouse.

“We are a founding team that’s worked for companies that drove culture and ushered in new behaviors that changed everything in entertainment, media, and consumer social,” said Maya Watson, Co-Founder and CEO in a press release. “Now we want to change the way we connect.”

Revolutionizing social interactions

Charles Hudson, Managing Partner and Founder of Precursor Ventures, praised the innovative approach of why?!, expressing excitement about the app’s potential to revolutionize social interactions.

why?! is designed for all types of relationships, including friends, couples, families, and coworkers. 

The app uses daily questions and experiences to spark conversations, transforming acquaintances into real friends and spicing up group chats.

The founding team also includes Cody Zhang as Head of Engineering and Kam Robinson in Product Engineering, with John Milinovich of Canva as an advisor. 

Currently in private beta, why?! plans to launch publicly this Fall.
