GET INSPIRED Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness acknowledges seven years of work | Things To Do AdminMay 7, 2025025 views MADISON (WKOW) — The Foundation for Black Women’s Excellence met at the Capitol Tuesday to mark seven years of their Save the Babies initiative. The initiative has been working to find solutions to reduce the incidence of low birth weight among babies born to Black mothers in Dane County. Lisa Peyton, CEO and president of the foundation, spoke Tuesday about the need for solutions. “We understand that healthcare happens in and out of the clinic, and what happens with Black women in the clinic is as critical as what happens outside of it,” she said. “From the beginning of designing the Save Our Babies initiative and Connect RX Wisconsin, we knew it had to merge those two very important domains of care.” Peyton said this is the first time they have seen sustained community support for a problem they have been facing for decades. About Save Our Babies: We energize, mobilize and support Black Women to transform their health and their lives through education, advocacy, support, and powerful partnerships. We work to eliminate health disparities and other barriers impacting the lives of Black women and their families and communities. We envision a world where Black women are healthy, thriving and free. We will radically transform Black Women’s health by creating a world where Black women and girls live long, happy and thriving lives, defined by healthy minds, bodies and spirits. Source link
