The Four Things to Know…

Rutgers gymnastics scored a season-high 194.900 on Jan. 13 to win the MLK Jr. Invitational hosted by Fisk, improving to 8-1 on the year after defeating Fisk (190.025), Wilberforce (177.125), and William & Mary (191.400).

The historic meet featured four Black head coaches of collegiate women’s gymnastics programs for the first time. Rutgers also made some history in the meet with their best start to a season at 8-1 since 2014’s 10-1 opening. That season was the last time the team qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships as a squad.

Rutgers gymnastics scored a 194.850 in the season opening American Gold Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Classic in California. The Scarlet Knights posted their highest season opening score since 2014 – a 195.075 in dual win against New Hampsire. Their 49.150 on beam marked the first time RU posted a 49+ on the apparatus in a season opener. The beam score was ranked No. 5 in the nation after opening week, and sits at No. 24 this week.

Entering the season with a Top 25 Recruiting Class ranking from College Gym News, the freshmen have made major impacts early in 2025. Delaney Adrian has completed two all-arounds with a high score of 38.950, while ranking second on the team in bars average with a 9.765 and a 9.800 beam average. Keeley Smith is Rutgers’ top bars worker with an average of 9.790. Around the gym, first-years Lisa Chevaire (vault), Reagan Schenkel (bars), and Donna Uhlenberg (floor) have consistently made the starting lineups.

Rutgers defeated Washington in a Big Ten dual meet, 194.550-194.050, on Saturday afternoon at Jersey Mike’s Arena. The Scarlet Knights, at 9-1 on the season, are still on pace for their best start to a season since the 2014 team started 10-1. It marks Rutgers’ first Big Ten victory since defeating Maryland on 195.550-194.925 on Jan. 22, 2022.
