YOUTUBE Gnassingbé Eyadéma : The Brutal Dictator from Togo | African Dictators AdminAugust 6, 2025011 views Africa has had a huge role in contributing its fair share of dictators to the world and Gnassingbe Eyadema of Togo is no different. Eyadema was the President of Togo from 1967 when he came into power via a coup until his death in 2005. At that point he had also been the longest serving african president. During his time in power he modeled his extensive personality cult on that of Mobutu Sese Seko in Zaire, for instance, he had an entourage of 1,000 dancing women who sang and danced in praise of him. In this episode of African Biographics, we look at the dictatorship of Gnassignbe Eyadema from Togo and how he managed to hold on to power for so long. *************************************************************************** Sources: https://www.theguardian.com/news/2005/feb/07/guardianobituaries https://www.africanexponent.com/post/9155-gnassingbe-eyadema-was-togos-president-from-1967-2005 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/830774.stm https://www.britannica.com/biography/Gnassingbe-Eyadema https://www.csmonitor.com/1993/0127/27061.html **************************************************************************** Music: 1) Youtube Studio 2) Kumasi Groove by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100183 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ 3) At The Shore – The Dark Contenent by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100770 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ #GnassingbeEyadema #Togo #AfricanDictators Feel free to reach out to us at africanbiographics@gmail.com source
