GSU awarded $25k grant and recognized as HBCU Nutrition Hub


GRAMBLING, La. (KNOE) – Grambling State University was awarded twenty-five thousand dollars by Share Our Strength yesterday.

Share Our Strength, a nonprofit working to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world awarded GSU the grant and recognized the school as a Historically Black College University Nutrition Hub as a part of the No Kid Hungry campaign.

Marcus Kennedy, Director of Campus Activities, Student Engagement, and the Favrot Student Union says, “Fighting against food insecurity at GSU and the surrounding community is crucial for ensuring the well-being and success of its students and residents, adding that expected outcomes and metrics of success in addressing food insecurity could include increased access to affordable and nutritious food options, decreased reliance on emergency food assistance, and improved overall health and academic performance among students.”

The funds from the grant will be used to support current food access initiatives, create sustainable solutions through collaboration, support enrollment in federal food assistance programs, expand reach and impact, and promote access to meals for children through meal programs.
