GET GRANTS Guillermina Grant advances to singles quarterfinals at ITA Sectionals | Georgia Sports AdminNovember 9, 2024072 views While Georgia women’s tennis closed out day one of ITA Sectionals with four singles wins at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, senior Guillermina Grant is the lone Bulldog advancing to the quarterfinals. In the round of 16, No. 75 ITA ranked Grant faced Nicole Teodosescu from Indiana and had a dominating performance. Grant had a strong first set and won 6-1. In the second set, Grant shut out Teodosescu and won the match 6-0. In the quarterfinals, she will face Valeria Ray from Vanderbilt. In the round of 32, Grant secured the first win of the day after facing Elim Yan from Tennessee. In the first set, Grant fell short to Yan 6-2. However, Grant fought back to claim victory in the second and third set 6-2, 6-0, advancing to the round of 16. No. 94 ITA ranked Aysegul Mert found victory on court one against Jade Psonka from UCF. Mert commanded the first set and won 6-0. Psonka could not mount a comeback, and Mert won her match with a 6-2 win in the second set. Mert then faced No. 103 Alicia Dudeney from Florida in the second set. Mert and Dudeney battled in two close sets, but Dudeney ultimately won in consecutive sets 7-5, 7-5. No. 106 Sofia Rojas faced Victoria Gomez O’Hayon from FAU in the round of 32 and lost the first set 6-3. Rojas quickly bounced back in the second set and won 6-0, forcing a third set. Rojas kept the momentum in the third set and clinched the match with a 6-0 win. Anaelle Leclercq-Ficher from Ole Miss eliminated Rojas from the round of 16 after a consecutive set win 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Hayden Mulberry faced Ava Esposito Cogan from Auburn in the round of 32. Mulberry had a solid start in the first set and defeated Esposito Cogan 6-4. However, Esposito Cogan won the second set 6-4 and ultimately won the match in the third set 6-2. In doubles, Rojas and Mulberry were quickly defeated by Leyla Britez-Risso and Vanesa Suarez from Tennessee 6-0, 6-1. Grant continued singles play on Friday, Nov. 8 and defeated Vanderbilt’s Valeria Ray 6-4, 6-3. Source link
