How to get your first credit card and make sure you get approved. I remember I got my first card when I was 18 or 19, and I got approved for 3k ad I bought my first MacBook pro for a little over 3k.

How to get Approved for your first Credit Card

One Rule: Pay your balance in full every month and do not spend money you don’t have.
Key: Build credit, get better cards with more rewards and you win.

1. What card to get?
Funny: I thought all credit cards where the same, but in reality, they are all different. I felt they cared; however, they only care about making money. That’s why they target you young.
Example:
Secured Credit Cards: Cards backed by your own money and some of the banks.
Store Credit cards: Best buy, apple and Macys, and so on.
Unsecured Cards: The standard credit card like capital one with a small credit line.
Cards with annual fees: You get a little bonus, and they card you a membership fee.
Rewards Cards: Cashback, travel points, and so on.
What to get, and Why?
Point: Secured Credit Card
Why? This card will be back by your money
– Higher chance of being approved
– Low line, to make sure you don’t go too crazy.

2. Examples of Great cards (I recommend)
Capital One Secured Card ( Low deposit )
Deposit: $49, $99, $200
Q&A: They’ll give you the deposit back after 6 months, usually, where you can upgrade to the platinum card.

Discover it Secured Cards ( rewards + Upgrades)
Tip: it’s a solid card, just a little card to ge into.
Info: 1% cashback and 2% on other categories

OpenSky ( no credit check)
It does have an annual fee

Oh and After 6 months upgrade to an unsecured card

3. My mistake
I overspent on my first credit card and got lucky it had no interest.
I would have gotten a secured card
Now… What if I get rejected ( call in and talk to them and ask them to reconsider, say you have a job and that this is your first card)

Tip:
Pay in full
No annual fee
Upgrade from secured to unsecured after 6 month
Use a credit card for points not for debt
