How To Handle Your Finances As A Christian

Just because you are a Christian you can’t possibly believe that money is evil or that people who have money are bad. Because if you believe that then you are obviously will have no motivation to get your finances in order.

Here is an example, If think that people who are fit and have good physics are terrible, then I will never start exercising, beucase the result of eating well and exercising is going to be a good physic. Likewise, the result of being good with money is going to be to have more money.

1. If you are not faithful with a little you can’t be trusted with a lot
Luke 16:10

“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
The truth:
– People say the reason they are poor is beucase they don’t have a lot
– Most people lie
– The truth is, they don’t manage well the little they have
– And if they come across a lot of money it will not fix anything
The First Step is this:
– Get control over the little you have
– Get a budget, know your expenses and know your income
– Know your needs and know your wants

2. Debt is not your friends
Proverbs 22:7
7 The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.
Faith is Important: So many people show their lack of faith by what they are willing to do
– One of my favorite Pastor, his name is Paul Washer. He says that people want something and can’t get it, and instead of trusting God, they get it themselves and end up being in bondage to it. People want a Car and don’t have the money, they pray, and if God doesn’t answer them, they go finance it and now they are in bondage to it.
A lot of Christians are filled with materialistic mindsets:
– They want houses they can’t afford
– They want cars they can’t afford
– And when giving options they neglect
– So they work a lifetime to pay for things that they don’t even need

Step:
– Stop getting into more debt
– Pay off the debt you have now
– And when you are ready to buy a home ( buy a home you can afford to own in less than 15 years where the cost monthly is no more than 33% of your net income )

3. Emergencies
– The government’s main role : Romans 13:4
– Your main role: 1 Timothy 5:8
You need to stop:
– Relying on the government, your job, and who ever else
– You have a responsibility given by God to take care of your family
– How could you be working for years and not even have $1000 to take care of your family

Step: Build an emergency Account
– Have at least 3 month worth of your household expenses
– That’s your Cushing, not the government

4. Investing and Home
Two stories:
Abraham and Lot: Abraham and Lot had so much that they needed to separate
Job: had so much wealth also and was still a righteous man

Do you know why:
– Beucase they were responsible for what God gave them
– But they were not reliant on those things
– They didn’t turn money into their idol

I’m not going to spend my time amazing wealth and not living (you are being deceived )
– The money you spend enjoying yourself and not building more wealth
– Is the reason why you waste your time at a job
Step:
– Invest 10% while you have a home to payoff and 10-20% when you don’t
– Save up to buy a home and when you do, use the extra cash to pay it off faster

5. The consequences
– You follow a plan like this
– You will build wealth
– If you rely on wealth to save you ( that’s dumb )
– But if you honor God with what he has given you, that’s good
