How to Save money on Grocery Shopping

I remember the first time I went groceries shopping as an official adult, I spent so much money and came back with not enough food for 2 weeks, and its because I bought a bunch of silly things. But then I got so good at groceries shopping that I could spend $200 on food and make it last me a month and sometimes even a little longer.

Of course to do this, I would buy thigns in bulk over a costco, but not everything, because as a single person living alone, something would just go bad if I bought to much. So in this video I’ll warn you about things that will cost you money if you are not careful.

Buying in Bulk Doesn’t always Make Sense

Fruits

Oil

Grains like rice

Bread

I remember buying oil to last me a long time:

Eventually the oil would go bad

The rice would start to get little worms or something weird inside them

And then lastly my avocados would also go bad

The only things I buy in bulk are

Meats like chicken breast and only enough to last a month

Precooked sealed rice and mash potatoes

Although I rarely do that

My advice is:

Don’t rush into buying bulk

Sometimes its better to buy just enough and consume it, than to save money and then waste money on the lost

Laundry Detergent and Dishwasher soap (the frugal Dreamer )

I am so jealous I never got the chance to do it

But I would always buy Tide pods, so simple to use and so expensive once you break down the math

So with tide pods:

Each pod is going to cost you about 25cent and on avearge I used two

And I would wash my cloths onces a week

So that’s literally $2 a month ( but after a while they would go bad in the bag and kinda break down )

Here is alternitive

Bucket ( free)

Bars of fels naptha soap (5)

Box of borax $6

Box of washing soda (5)

Box of backing soda (3$)

Scent beads container (11)

And with this recepi that cost you about $30 even you get 400 loads

8 cents a load, that’s 3x times cheaper

Not Using Coupons

I’ve never seen someone be embarraed to pick up a $1 from the floor, or even 25cent

But people get embarrased about using coupons, Its free money take advantage and don’t be silly

Most groceries stores, offer coupons so you can before going shoppijng see exactly where the best place to shop is

Generic Brands (quality ones )

I have changed my mind a little on generic brands, because a brand is important and you can expect consistent quality

But you cannot become a zombie when shopping

A lot of items like coffee, they are imported from the same places as your favoite brnads, so it deosnt matter

So here how much you can save

Generic brands are usually 25% cheaper, and when you are buying an items it doesn’t seem like a big a deal

Paying 10 or 7.50, not such a big deal

But when you spend $400 a month on food, that’s $1200 a year in savings

Ps. I hate that new mindset of, you deserve the best, and you shouldn’t have your wife picking between cheaper items, just get the expensive one. Expensive is not always best. So its important you do non bias taste test.

Lack of Meal Plan

I’ve realized people that have been cooking for a long time, have a menu (unconsciously )

They know exactly what they need for the house and they don’t waste time buying a bunch of little products that add up

So before you go to the groceries store, have a plan in mind for that week or that month
