How to Secure your Stock Investment Account

So if you have Acorns, Robinhood, or any other broker you might be at risk of having your account hacked. And someone potentially selling some of your investments or all of them.

1. How this scam works
– Check your email for locked and iCloud and PayPal emailed
– Once you check for those, do not click them but they do send them to you
– The idea is, when you click to reset your password, you actually just gave them your password

So here is the Next Step:
– They sign in to your emails and mark important updates as spam so you never get them
– So you’ll never see an email, tell you, hey you are getting scammed
– Scammer are very smart, and I think if they used their skill for good, they could probably make a lot more money

2. Step 2 in this scamming process
– They will sign into your investment account
– Add dummy bank account which they can buy from the black market by the way
– And when the time is right they can sell your investments and transfer the money over.

And if this already happened:
– You want to contact your broker and tell them what happened
– And hopefully, they will clear your account
– But other apps are very firm and sometimes if you don’t get a little crazy they will not refund the money.

3. How to prevent this
– Two-factor authentication method for all of your accounts
– This way whenever you sign In from an unknown divide they will request a code or a text with a code
– Here is the problem no every platform offers this

Acorns:
– You have to verify your phone number and if the device is not recognized then they will request a code

Robinhood:
– Little person, settings, and two- factor authentication ( I use an app call VIP) – and if you want to old school you can literally buy a keychain)

Sofi Money
– Doesn’t give you a code that changed only with SMS which is good but no good enough

Overall: go in your setting and security and if you don’t see it, call the company and ask what is going on.

4. Bonus this is an Idea I got from Jeremy
– Call your cell phone carrier and tell them to make a not on your account
– To never ship or give anyone you’re a copy of your sim card without you being present
– But even if you do that, if your really unlucky someone can make an id with your face and a social and still get it.

Ps: the key is, you probably can’t stop it, but you want to make it as difficult as possible.
