I Finally Sold My House In Puerto Rico

So about two years ago I moved to Puerto Rico, the main reason in all honesty was to save money on taxes. I bought a house and I lived inside of that home for about a year and some change I think, and last week I officially sold the home.

And in this video, I’ll tell you exactly what I learned from this entire experience.

Moving to Puerto Rico was the Great decision

It was the first time I moved out of my moms house

I went literally as far as I could, and it was not intentional honestly

While In puerto rico, I made a some really good friends and God also had mercy on my and saved me

My plan was simple:

I was going to stay their for more than 5 years at least and continue working and doing the same thing I do today

I also planned on staying 6 months in puerto rico and 6 months in dominican republic

In my mind it sounded great, but in reality, it was a lot instability

Tip: you cant set roots if you keep jumping from place to place

Buying a Home was a Smart Idea

I bought a home for 130k and I put way to much money into it, and then I finally was able to sell it for about 185k and not lose as much as I deserved to lose

I was very immature, although I thought I was mature

I was buying with expectation of the future, ignoring the present reality

For example:

I bought a home I could grow into, enough bedrooms for a family, but living by self in a big house, just felt lonely

And when thigs broke and they did, they cost a lot of money to fix

And it also cost a lot of money to maintain the property

What I should have done:

First: I could have just kept renting, for the time I was think I was going to stay their, about 5 years of rent, I was still going to be saving more money than I wwould by buyng a home

Second: if owning was so important, I should have just bought an apartment with 1-2 bedroom for a fraction of the price that didn’t require any remodel

And when the time came to grow a family, I would just sell

Life is about more than just the number

Here what changed my mind about living in puerto rico

First:

I was alone for the most part, and staying in DR for 6 months and then thinking about the idea of having to go back, was not a good one

Second:

I had a life-and-death situation happen to me, so it forced me to think about what is really important

Third: stability

A lot more stuff too but those are the main ones.

This involved church, family, and friends
