I Switch To DaVinci Resolve 18 After 7 Years

In this video, I’ll tell you the reason why I started using DaVinci resolve full time as a person who runs a full-time YouTube channel and has been editing for a little under 15 years.

1. Financial Wise
– This is a financial channel and I talk a lot about money and saving money
– Sometimes we are able to get more, or the same for the same for less money
– But we continue to pay more for a brand that we have known for a while

Let’s talk about Money: Premiere Cost
– I was paying for the Creative Cloud as a student so I was only paying about $30 per month but on its own it’s like $21 dollars. Honestly, I got all the software ( but I only needed Premiere and Photoshop and used After effect for some templates rarely )
– So that’s $252 a year

Davinci Resolve: Its cost
– It’s a total cost of $295 dollars for the license
– But most people, can easily edit with the free version for a very long time and not miss any premium feature

What I should have done was this:
– Take one year to use the free version of Davinci and save about $25 per month
– And at the end of the year just buy me the studio license if I feel like I need it
– And if not I have extra cash to spend on whatever I want

The big problem for me:
– Everything is now a subscription model and you can easily get stuck paying for these things forever and companies love that

2. Features of Studio Version vs Free vs Premiere
– I found out about Davinci Resolve from a friend about 2 years ago I think when I was looking for a full-time editor
– The minute she said Davinci and Free, I was like this software cannot be good enough to be compared to Premiere
– Truth is, it’s basically on par with premiere and that’s why so many people are switching

For me personally:
– I can do everyone on Davinci, from Editing the actual footage
– To adding effects and do color grading
– And my favorite feature that Premiere just got was the auto subtitles, and now Davinci also has it

The biggest drawback:
– It’s the learning curve, with the inspect tab with the fusion tab
– And you learn that things are done differently in Davinci but once you get the hang of it
– And you watch a lot of tutorials, I’ve learned to deal with it
Ps. I basically kept the controls from the premiere, by customizing my keyboard, which has helped a lot

3. What do I currently have
– It’s sad to say but I still have Premiere installed because I still have to pay for the cloud.
– Because I do use Photoshop to create my thumbnails
– But I’m looking into some new software with a one-time payment also
This software:
– It’s called affinity photos and it cost about $70 I think
– So I’m doing research on that too
