I Tried Acting Rich For One Month

I tried acting rich for an entire month, and here what i learned, first off its expensive, second it’s fun but thirdly the things that i enjoyed the most were the things that cost the least.

Now here is where this idea came from, i read a book called Stop acting rich by Thomas J Standly , where i learned that most common people try to be act like the rich, but the rich are just people acting like the rich also, because the truly wealthy people are frugal, simple, and tend to live very common lives and that’s a part of why they are wealthy.

1. First it’s expensive

-now the only reason i felt comfortable running this experiment was because i just recently finish the financial freedom Course

-Meaning i have no debt, fully funded emergency account, investment to cover the basics and a paid of home

-So I could afford to have some fun

First off here what i spend money on:

-Stuff: Bought an iPhone, bought some cloths and some more stuff

-Experiences: started to go to fancy restaurant with the nice ocean views, resorts and some tourist experiences

-People: i bought gift for people and fix some of their problems

And i learned something:

-buying an iPhone and some cloths didn’t change me, but it’s nice to to wear decent cloths, I forgot what it felt like since 90% of my cloths came from goodwill. ( now i will not be buying $500 shoes, because that’s stupid, but you have to dress nice)

-Experiences: this was by the far the most fulfilling, hanging out with friends, and doing things together and creating memories, but because I’m a weirdo, what I enjoyed most was the conversations, being in the car, sharing a meal – not the actual stuff )

-People: helping someone solve something they can’t solve and seeing their eyes light up, its beautiful

2. People Pretending

-I have a friend and he loves nice things but he can’t Afford it

-And when i went to fancy places to eat, i would enjoy it but not really care much for it

-But when he went he would love the experience, take pictures and then come back home and feel guilty because he couldn’t afford it

Now I visited this place ( fancy place )

-Casa de campo where to stay you have to pay like $400 a night, its expensive ( we got a friend to invite us in, so we didn’t pay )

-But i looked around and i asked myself, how many people are living here or visiting here and are on the edge of losing it all just to sustain appearances

-My Favorite part about hat night was making fun of the waiter and his fancy talk, and driving back home and making jokes

Nice things are nice ( but in the end its all the same )

-eating a $20 burger and a $8 five burger is the same

-What’s the take away

-acting rich is expensive and more than anything its foolish if you can’t afford it ( their nothing wrong living in a fancy place but doing it at the cost of financial stability is stupid)

-Because to be rich is to be compound money

-And when you look at the stats ( the rich people are in their 50s, they live in modest homes, drive modest cars and money is just a tool to keep them independent )

So my rich month is officially over:

-I’ll keep the openness of experiences in an affordable way

-I’ll keep the trying new foods without the fancy waiter

For me personally: here what matters

-being independent

-Surrounded with people who love me and i love them
