The Black Excellence committee, in concert with Buxton’s Next Generation (BNG) and Buxton National Historic Site & Museum announced on Friday, the first ever and long overdue; Black Excellence Awards & Gala (BEA).

Mark your calendars for February 10, 2024 hosted at the Retro Suites in Chatham.

The Black Excellence Awards & Gala was launched with resounding applause as Shannon Prince, Michelle Robbins and Doug Robbins, co-chairs of the first-ever awards and gala.

The awards will celebrate the black community and the greater community in the following categories:

– Female of the year

– Male of the year

– Youth of the year

– Entrepreneur of the year

– Agriculturalist of the year

– Citizen of the year

Nominations open online Monday, December 18, 2023.

Organizers say this would not be possible without the generous support of their lead sponsor: Enbridge and Sons of Kent, Teksavvy, Scotiabank, Maple Insurance, Impact Graphics Chatham-Kent Economic Development and Tourism Services, Winmar and With This Ring.

Organizers added that night they will also be recognizing their Trailblazer award, their most prestigious award.

Organizers say the event will be the cornerstone to Chatham Kent’s Black History month.
