INDIANAPOLIS (WLFI) — The Greater Lafayette area was awarded $35 million in quality-of-life grants from the State of Indiana.

READI 2.0 is the second round of funding for the Greater Lafayette region, which includes Tippecanoe and surrounding counties.

The region was awarded $30 million during the first round, which included funding for a new terminal at the Purdue Airport, as well as other economic development, housing and child care projects.

Tippecanoe County Commissioner Tom Murtaugh says the funds are important for addressing growing challenges in Greater Lafayette.

“We certainly need to look towards allocating some money across the region to develop housing, but also child care is a huge issue, and it’s a burden that is limiting people’s ability to enter the workforce,” Murtaugh says.

Murtaugh says the grant money can also be used to help with infrastructure.
