To non-designers who are decision makers minimalism comes off as lazy or uncreative. Without a design or arts background/education minimalism can be a hard aesthetic choice to justify. Try to remember that communication is best when it is thoughtful, concise and consistent, and design is as much if not more about communication than aesthetic choices.
