National Black Business Month Salutes Robert John Connor

Robert John Connor, Atlanta’s award-winning director, veteran stage actor, writer, singer, and producer concluded his celebration of “National Black Business Month” by joining On Point with Juandolyn Stokes to talk about his contributions to the entertainment industry.

Connor is involved in several businesses, but Dominion Entertainment, which produces the holiday favorite, Black Nativity, and this summer’s production, Dream Girls, or last summer’s hit, Chicken & Biscuits is at the forefront.

Connor says they [Dominion Entertainment] garner support for our community by producing quality entertainment.

He adds, National Black Business Month is important because it is paramount that we support Black businesses and that we pay attention where we put our money.

“We do not support Black arts organizations as much as we could. Black people are the most talented people on earth, but we take it granted and we low-ball it,” said Connor.

Connor encourages the Black community to go see what’s happening in Black entertainment.

“Take the phone out of your kid’s hands and take them to a play. Our kids come with gifts that are untapped. My mother took us to places we didn’t even want to go like opera’s,” he said.

“The arts have been that thing that saved my life,” Connor said.
