Newbo Market showcasing local black-owned businesses

Newbo City Market in Cedar Rapids expanded its usual business incubator to help expose the community to some hidden gems. It’s part of the market’s celebration of Juneteenth. Officially observed on June 19th, the holiday marks the day the final slaves in Texas learned the Civil War was over and they had been freed.

The black-owned business market featured a wide range of unique retail products handcrafted and curated by local entrepreneurs. “It’s really important for the Cedar Rapids and local community to recognize the contributions of all small business owners in this area, that when we support small businesses, it benefits the entire community.” Said Matt McGrane of Newbo City Market.
