Nigerian Teenager Emmanuela Ilok Wins Scholarships To Ivy League Schools – urbangeekz

Emmanuela Ilok, a remarkable Nigerian teenager, has been granted prestigious, fully funded scholarships to pursue Software Engineering at renowned institutions such as Stanford, MIT, Yale, UPenn, Princeton, and Columbia University. 

This remarkable feat is a testament to her exceptional talent and the recognition she has garnered.

Ilok’s Remarkable Academic Excellence and Recognition

Emmanuela Ilok’s journey to university scholarships began with her victory in the esteemed RISE program in 2022. Her winning project, ‘CodEd,’ Was a testament to her commitment to enhancing computer science education in public schools.

‘CodEd’ not only provided teacher training and student curriculum but also internship opportunities, bridging the gap between public and private schools in this field.

The Rise program was founded in 2019 as a flagship initiative of Eric and Wendy Schmidt’s $1 billion commitment to nurturing talent and fostering development across various initiatives. The program identifies talented individuals aged 15 to 17 and empowers them to address community issues using their passion and creativity.

Ilok’s academic prowess also earned her national recognition. The British Council awarded her the country’s best in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education.

A Worthy Role Model To Emulate

Nigeria’s Education activist and CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, also shared Ilok’s latest accomplishments in a post on his X page. Emmanuela Ilok developed a software program that employs Machine Learning algorithms to detect breast cancer in women, achieving an impressive accuracy rate of 91%.

“I spent over an hour listening to her today, and I can tell you that we have a superstar in her,” Onyia said.

Onyia further emphasized the need to identify and nurture such exceptional talents, stating, “We have many hidden Emmanuelas in Nigeria, and we need to discover and support them. It’s time for Nigeria to shine.”

Earlier, a young mathematics prodigy, Ugwoezuonu Ogechi Zara, was reportedly awarded an N21 million scholarship after scoring a perfect score of 100% in the primary category of the National Mathematics Competition organized by the Mathematics Association of Nigeria.
