October 14, 2024: Black Entrepreneurs Day


WHEREAS, Black entrepreneurs have historically played a vital role in the economic and cultural fabric of Michigan, driving innovation, creating jobs, and fostering community development; and,

WHEREAS, Black Entrepreneurs Day serves to celebrate the achievements of Black business owners while raising awareness of the challenges they face in accessing resources, support, and opportunities; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan is home to a vibrant community of Black entrepreneurs who contribute to the state’s economy and enhance the diversity of its business landscape; and,

WHEREAS, it is essential to promote equity and inclusion in our economy by providing Black entrepreneurs with the necessary tools, resources, and opportunities to thrive; and, 

WHEREAS, we must recognize the ongoing efforts of organizations, community leaders, and advocates who support Black entrepreneurship in Michigan;  

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, and Garlin Gilchrist II, lieutenant governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 14, 2024, as Black Entrepreneurs Day in Michigan.
