Sabathani Center’s Black Excellence Experience for Black Artists


Are you a Black artist ready to share your creative vision with the community? The Sabathani Community Center invites you to step into the spotlight with The Black Excellence Experience, a unique opportunity designed to uplift and celebrate emerging Black talent.

This program offers a platform for artists to showcase their work, connect with the community, and gain invaluable exposure. Selected artists will participate in a one-week residency at Sabathani Community Center, with access to a dedicated space to:

  • Exhibit completed works
  • Create pieces on-site
  • Sell their artwork

This is more than an art show—it’s a celebration of Black creativity, resilience, and excellence.

Who Can Apply?

This opportunity is open to Black artists of all ages whose work has not yet been featured in local galleries. Sabathani welcomes a broad range of visual art forms, including:

  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Ceramics
  • Woodworking
  • Photography
  • Textiles (knitting, crocheting, quilting)
  • Jewelry
  • Greeting cards
  • Clothing design
  • Seasonal creations
  • Innovative or unique artistic expressions

How to Apply

Submit your application online or pick up a printed application at:

Applications must include five completed pieces representative of your work. These pieces will be reviewed during the interview process.

Artist Interviews

Interview Dates:

  • Wednesday, February 5
  • Saturday, February 8

Interviews will take place at Sabathani Community Center. Please note that applications without artwork for review will not be considered.
