In this video im going to break down all the cost of living in a van and see if it’s a better option than renting an apartment or buying a home.

Btw This one guy on youtube bough a 100k Tesla model x and lives inside it. ( the excuse was he wanted to combine a mortgage and a car payment, however, car lose value and house usually appreciate)

Btw: For everyone saying they want to combine a mortgage with car payment again. You don’t need to get a car while paying for a home.
And cars lose value.

Baseline: Apartment
Cost of renting a boring apartment:
700-1300 in New York ( so the van has to be at least
Electricity and gas: $60

Total Cost: $760

Ps. For everyone saying Tommy: apartment in the city are 2k and up, you don’t have to live in the city, just commute.

Cost: Van
1. Van: $5000 (1998 dodge) – 300k ( but this a minimalist budget so let’s use that 10k(2012 dodge)

2. Parking: free ( there are a legal area you can part around New York)
3. Insurance: depends: average cost: $150 (real $125)
Joke: ( can you get homeowner insurance if you live a van lol)
4. Furniture: Bed bugs Real: but you could go on craigslist and get some free furniture ( recommend buying a bad, you don’t want a used bed) – Estimate $500
5. Showers and Bathroom: You can get a gym membership at a blink and 15$ and get free showers and bathroom use.
6. Gas: $50 bucks a month ( because you’re really just parking and moving around here and there)
7. Maintenance: 98.83 per month

Total Cost: $5,813
Month to Month: $313

Ps: I think about my friend, who bought a business and lived inside it for 6 months. It’s about sacrifice

Contrast:
Yearly Expense Apartment: $8400 with a roommate
No roommate: $15,600

Van yearly expense ( when you first buy the van): $9,256 ( including the furniture
Following year: $3756 ( per year)

That’s insane… you save $4,644
Minimum wage $15: that’s 309 hours of work 12.9 days

Ultimate tips I found: Rent courage during the winter to help with the cold (175-400 bucks month)

Final thought: is in a van a good idea
1. Depends: If your grinding and investing, to make sure you never need to live in a van again then yes.
2. But if you just want to live inside forever, what about when you want a family if you want one
3. Me personally, I would have done it, but only for 5 years max, and I would have to walk out that van a millionaire with several properties to my name.
