South Louisville business hopes to survive the new year

A South Louisville small business owner says she’s in the fight of her life to keep her doors open.Ashley Tuggle, the owner of Xquisite Nutrition, says rising food costs and unexpected expenses have put her business in jeopardy.“This is my passion. I can’t see myself doing anything else,” said Tuggle.Xquisite Nutrition, located on South Third Street, opened three years ago with a mission to provide healthier food options and holistic wellness support to the community.Xquisite Nutrition was created to meet a need for the community with healthier options and wellness support here in South Louisville.Over the years, Tuggle’s work has gained major recognition. Xquisite Nutrition won Health and Fitness Business of the Year at the Black-Owned Business Awards and was featured in Today’s Woman magazine. But behind the success, Tuggle says this year has been her toughest yet.“This is the first time in my business that I’m really struggling,” she said.Tuggle says fluctuating produce prices have taken a major toll on her bottom line. Much of her business depends on fresh fruits and vegetables for cold-pressed juices, protein shakes and wellness products.“The prices of produce are going up and down. A lot of my stuff deals with juices and fruits. I do cold-pressed juices. I even do edible arrangement baskets,” said Tuggle.Beyond drinks, Xquisite Nutrition offers meal prep services, nutritional guidance and fitness classes. The storefront often doubles as a workout space, providing exercise programs and personalized support for customers.For customer Terra Watkins, the business has become an essential resource.“For those individuals looking for all-natural supplements to help with dieting, she also offers exercise programs. It’s great to have somebody that can really talk you through it,” said Watkins.As the new year approaches, Tuggle says she’s turning to the community she’s poured so much into, hoping their support can help her survive this difficult chapter.“I don’t see myself keeping it much longer if I don’t get the help I need to get through this hump,” she said.Tuggle has started a GoFundMe to help cover rising costs and keep Xquisite Nutrition operating. She says every donation brings her one step closer to keeping her doors open and continuing her mission in South Louisville.
