Success of Black Diamond Quilting attributed to TikTok | The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

LINCOLN — Shannon Meyer, the owner of Black Diamond Quilting in Lincoln, attributes the growth of her small business from home-based to “brick and mortar” to the video platform TikTok.The quilting shop is located at 810 E. Pridemore Drive in Lincoln, a building that has previously been used as a thrift store and a donut shop.Meyer said she started by buying a bundle of fabric from Marshalls Dry Goods and then reselling it through a video on TikTok. She went back to the store to do it again, “and it erupted into this thing.”Meyer, who has lived in Lincoln for about six years, began running her fabric store out of her home and then her home was taken over by all the fabric. She said she saw the building in Lincoln was empty and connected with the owner to inquire about renting the store. The rent was affordable but she needed to raise $300 in two days for the deposit.Meyer turned to her customers on TicTok for help and they purchased enough fabric from her to make it possible to pay her bills and have the money for the deposit. She and her husband, Mitchell, rented the building and spent the next 27 days getting it ready to open as a new quilting shop on Oct. 1. She said the inside of the building is still a work in progress but it now has new counters, new paint and has an open, large space for customers.Meyer purchases most of her fabric from online wholesale sites. Her business still is mostly from TikTok customers, but she said she also has enough customers from the area to keep her in business.Meyer said the quilting shop is her first small business and she attributes her entrepreneurial spirit to her grandfather, uncle and father. She said her father always told her that “as long as you have integrity, you can do anything.”Her creative ways come from her grandmother, she said. She has a passion for quilting and said it gives her a feeling of accomplishment. Her favorite part of quilting, she said, is when she gifts a handmade quilt to someone. In addition to quilting cottons, batting, notions and offering longarm services, Meyer also offers quilt restorations and quilt commissions. She’s hosted evenings where people can come in, eat, meet new people and work on their own projects and plans to offer classes in the future. For more information about Black Diamond, go to the website blackdiamondquilting.com or its Facebook page, Instragram or TikTok page.
