GET INSPIRED Surrey woman named one of 2025’s ‘Top 100 Black Women to Watch’ AdminOctober 7, 202505 views A local woman is being recognized as one of Canada’s “Top 100 Black Women to Watch” of 2025. Surrey resident Rachel Bahika Matembe—a food scientist, author, museum exhibit curator, and home-schooling mom—was named to the short list of women from coast to coast to coast by Canada International Black Women Excellence (CIBWE). “Being named a Black Woman to Watch by CIBWE is an affirmation of the path I’ve chosen and the work I commit to every day,” said Matembe. “It is a reminder that representation, visibility, and voice matter—and that our stories carry power.” According to CIBWE, the list recognizes Black Canadian women who exemplify “leadership, innovation, and community impact” in various fields. “The 2025 cohort represents the upcoming visionaries and change-makers of our current generation.” The women will be recognized at the Black Pearls Gala, which will be held in Ontario at the end of October. The event, which has 500-plus guests, will feature tributes, live performances, and keynote remarks from leaders in Canada’s Black community. CIBWE is also celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Their theme, “A Decade of Excellence: Celebrating Timeless & Unapologetic Sisterhood” focuses on Black women from within the Canada International Black Women Excellence network and the pathways to success many have taken over the history of the organization. CIBWE focuses on empowering Black women as they find success in entrepreneurship, business, technology, arts, advocacy, and other fields. The organization calls their Black women to watch “Black Pearls.” All of CIBWE’s Black Pearls will be featured in an upcoming magazine. The Black Pearls Gala will be held Oct. 25 at the Pearson Convention Centre in Brampton, Ont., on Oct. 25. For more info on CIBWE, or the Black Pearls Gala, visit cibwe.ca. Source link
