In Sunday night’s episode of The Block (Episode 40), airing on Channel 9 and 9Now, the Blockheads were under pressure to complete another guest bedroom and laundry, as they worked to finish the remaining indoor spaces in their homes.

As tensions from the renovation mounted, Kylie, Mimi, and Courtney took a breather, heading to the pub to reflect on the close bond they’ve formed over the past few months on Phillip Island.

However, trade issues continued to be a recurring theme. Kristian and Mimi were once again on the hunt for a new tiler, adding more stress to an already intense week. In contrast, Ricky and Haydn, who were notoriously behind in earlier episodes, managed to finish their rooms ahead of schedule. The pair celebrated their progress with drinks in Cowes.

When Scotty Cam called “tools down,” it was time for the judges—Shaynna Blaze, Darren Palmer, and guest judge Marty Fox—to assess the rooms. But first, Scotty shared some positive news: Freedom would be gifting the contestants $10,000 in outdoor furniture and an additional $10,000 in cash to assist with their landscaping.

House 1 – Maddy and Charlotte ($26,043 spent)

Despite some early enthusiasm from Marty about the elevated bed design, all three judges eventually agreed it was a mistake, especially with the lofted space positioned above a double bed. The unfinished state of the rooms made it clear the duo had faced a tough week.

House 2 – Courtney and Grant ($24,361 spent)

The judges applauded Courtney and Grant for heeding their advice and reconfiguring the layout of their upstairs space. The new layout, a fully contained area, impressed the judges, with Shaynna singling out Courtney’s design skills. The upstairs bedroom received a perfect score, although the laundry, while good, fell short of perfection.

House 3 – Ricky and Haydn ($30,544 spent)

The addition of bunk beds in the guest bedroom was well-received by the judges, who noted that the house could now accommodate 12 people. They felt that Ricky and Haydn had finally hit their stride, delivering a family-friendly home. The laundry’s powder room also earned praise.

House 4 – Kylie and Brad ($26,260 spent)

Once again, Kylie and Brad struggled to impress. The judges found the bedroom’s layout impractical and were unimpressed by the black-and-white laundry. Kylie, visibly upset, voiced her frustration at the critiques.

House 5 – Kristian and Mimi ($34,160 spent)

While their laundry was deemed the best of the day, the judges were critical of the front bedroom’s location, believing it should have been swapped with the rumpus room delivered the previous week.

The competition took an exciting turn when Courtney and Grant played their penguin advantage, securing them the week’s win with a score of 28.5.
