The Old Money Book | Honest book Review

The old money book by Byron Tully, I found this book on Amazon and right now you can purchase it on kindle for about $2.99, it has around 158 pages and I read it in less than a week. I think you can expect to read this book in less than 4 hours, which if you make $20 bucks an hour it’s an $80 investments plus 2.99

In the end I’ll tell you If its worth the money. I like to do my book reviews differently, so instead of giving you a summary I’ll tell you the nuggets I found and how I plan to objectively apply them to my life.

1. Manners and etiquette
– For some reason, I don’t know why
– It may be my upbringing and how we look down on people who behave with manners
– But I always took pride in not really worry about table manners or to probably dress

I learned in this book:
– How to look at a table with all these forks and spoons
– And be able to know how to manage it
– And how to set my cutlery to let the staff know what’s next

Tip: I always thought this was ridiculous, but it makes sense to me now. I should coordinate myself appropriately if I am at one of these places.

2. Travel
– People that say they can’t travel just don’t make it a priority
– Travel is so important beucase you can learn, explore, create memories and much more
– People say they can travel but have $500 car payments and $300 designing purses ( even your cable bill could save enough for a decent trip )

I learned:
– Get organized beforehand
– Where do you want to go, what do you want to see, and what do you want to do.
– Buy tickets in advance, make accommodation in advance, and worry about the culture not staying in luxury ( save your money )

Problem: the people who want to travel to lay on a beach, drink, and do nothing, may have emotional issues that are unaddressed

Example: we want to go to Lima Peru, if we buy tickets a month in advance instead of paying over $1000 for tickets we could pay $500 bucks ( by buying month in advance )

3. Quality Clothes and Furniture
– I took pride in buying used clothing and not paying retail
– And I’m happy I did
– But their was just one more part I was missing ( buying quality over quanty and dressing for the occasion and buying timeless clothing )

I learned
– Sports clothes are for sports not casual
– Buying a pair of leather shoes is better than 3 pairs of garbage material shoes
– So me and my wife, will be shopping for quality clothes at the best price, whether in outlets or used ( but quality first) and style we can use for years to come
– We have no objective of garnering attention

4. Staff

5. Socialization

6. Reading
– This is something that made me who I am today
– Reading taught me all the things that my neighborhood and my surroundings could not
– It saved me hours and hours

I learned:
– Teach your kids to read early
– Replace screens with books
– Read interesting books, plays, poems, history, and biographies

Tip: I’m big on nonfiction but this makes a lot of sense

7. Housing

I learned:
– The rich care about affordability, functionality, and safety
– This is not about buying a big house to fill it with garbage or impress people
– I also liked how they fill their home décor with pictures that are family and trips and more
– They also have painted walls, not just a white house, like a maniac

8. Privacy
– For a long time I’ve hated the idea of sharing everything I do on social media
– I don’t like people knowing my business
– I like coming home and not being at work if that makes sense
– I also don’t like how people feel so comfortable in asking personal questions

9. Don’t solve emotional problems with Money
– Why do you need a car you can’t afford
– Why do you need to go shopping all the time
– Why do you think you are what you wear

A lot of people have psychological issues and insecurities that they try to fix with bad money habits

10. Kids
– Don’t raise annoying kids
– Teach them manners
– Teach them to read

Take great pride in their education
