The Women’s Resource Center of Greensboro sees more women in need

For over 25 years, The Women’s Resource Center of Greensboro has been helping women in the community get the resources they need.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — There are efforts to help women in our community.

For more than 25 years, The Women’s Resource Center of Greensboro has been providing women with assistance for things like food, water, and shelter but they are in need of the community’s help!

The center also provides assistance with things like family law offering free volunteer attorneys that serve on an attorney hotline.

Since the new year, the Center saw an increase in women needing help which is why they are in need of for more Volunteer Resource Counselors.

We caught up with Laurie Truesdell, a retired attorney and a current volunteer resource counselor. She shared how the center is touching the lives of women in the community.

“They may be homeless or they may be having financial problems or problems where they need counseling. So we sort of serve as a go between our organization and non profit agencies in the community that provide assistance,” Truesdell said.

Truesdell says she encourages those in the community with a passion for helping others to become a resource counselor.

Recently, the Center held a free job readiness class teaching women about the right questions to ask during an interview.

That is just one of the many workshops they will be holding this month.

The Center’s Director of Community Education and Engagement explains how they are bridging the community to every woman.

“We see women who come in and we help them identify three to fours things they are struggling with and if we can’t help them here we know is out in the community that can help them and we are able to send them there armed with information to make that visit successful,” Hope Strickland said.
