“Unacceptable” that Donegal driving test cancelled due to black & white insurance disc

Donegal Deputy Charles Ward says that it is “unacceptable” that someone from Donegal sitting their long-awaited driving test was failed as their insurance disc was printed in black and white.

He raised the issue in the Dáil with An Taoiseach Micheal Martin.

Deputy Charles Ward queried the Taoiseach in the Dáil today regarding an issue with insurance discs that are printed in black and white.

He raised the case of a constituent who had experienced the extremely long wait for a driving test in Donegal – only to be failed immediately for the minor discrepancy.

Deputy Ward said that “It is unacceptable that most insurance companies now require customers to print their own discs, rather than posting them, most likely in a bid to cut costs. Most people are completely unaware of this colour printing requirement.”

Deputy Ward asked the Taoiseach whether the requirement expands beyond driving tests, asking: “If there was an accident, would a car with a black and white disc be legally insured?”

In response, the Taoiseach said that he would ask the Minister responsible to look into the issue further.
