GET GRANTS Vanderhoof Arena secures $140K funding for upgrades from Northern Development AdminMay 8, 2024039 views Six northern B.C. projects to benefit from nearly $1.3 million funding. The District of Vanderhoof’s Arena is poised to receive a significant portion of a nearly $1.3 million funding grant from the Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT). During its meeting on April 24, the board of directors of Northern Development sanctioned $1,292,261 for a range of projects across Northern B.C. Among these allocations, $141,585 has been set aside for the District of Vanderhoof under the Recreation Infrastructure program to facilitate upgrades to the arena. This funding initiative also bolsters various other projects in communities such as Prince George, Chetwynd, Prince Rupert, Quesnel, and the Glen Vowell band. Constructed in 1977 and subject to several renovations, the Vanderhoof Arena required essential upgrades to its aging mechanical systems, notably the heating and cooling infrastructure. The current system is inefficient and at risk of failure, requiring immediate attention to ensure uninterrupted arena operations. These upgrades not only enhance energy efficiency but also contribute to reducing the facility’s environmental impact, NDIT said in a statement issued on May 8. Enhancing the arena’s mechanical systems is crucial for sustaining operations, averting potential closures, and maintaining revenue from hockey teams, skating organizations, and public skating. Beyond the financial impact, the arena plays a pivotal role in enhancing the community’s quality of life, making these upgrades a strategic investment in Vanderhoof’s overall recreational health, the statement further said. Joel McKay, CEO of the Northern Development Initiative Trust, said they were impressed with the quality of projects submitted for the first intake of 2024 and were happy supporting the recipients. “We are glad to see a strong focus on recreation and the importance of having accessible spaces for everyone to enjoy.” Source link
