100 Side Hustles without quitting your Job Book Review | Chris Guillebeau
1. Find a Problem and Solve it and make sure you Like solving it
Story To Why: If you wanted to something and said, man if only someone invented this, or someone needs to solve this. I remember when I was in high school, I wish someone create an app that can take a picture of math problems and solve it or a notebook that goes into a word doc.
How?
Once you find a problem, where its: A wallet for Dogs
Test the Demand:
– Who else is doing it ( if no one is doing might be good or a sign that it’s a bad idea
– See what your friends think, and do a Kickstarter campaign ( Proof demand with dollars)
Keep experimenting
2. Doesn’t have to be Original
Story: I’ve gone to businesses that say, no we don’t have a website, we don’t have social media, we don’t have reviews. However, they still make money.
What?
– You take these businesses you either offer the service to fix their problem
– Or you create a service and give the entire business an online presence.
Example: In the Book, there was this guy with a cleaning company
That started just because whenever he looked he could never find a reliable one
– Everything is down online, book appointment, and review the services also
Overall: Find what they lack and 10x it
3. Think Outside the Box ( Taboo)
Story: A lot of private pain points people have that they don’t like to talk about. Example: Dollar share club, have a program for Shave, Shower, and Ish. ( People thought products like that were taboo, but the demand is there because they sell a ton)
How: Identify problems, people don’t like to talk about, or there are stigmas around and create a solution for them.
4. Better Middle Man
Story: No On likes a middle man, unless his saving you money. Example, in America if I order something from Amazon I’ll get in 2 days and free shipping. However, in some countries, amazon doesn’t ship to, the customer needs a middle man to get them the product they need.
How: Find services that do not offer worldwide and be the person that solves that problem.
Example: So many people from DR my home country ask me to bring them stuff when I come because they don’t have access to the retailers we have here. Imagine a service that ships worldwide for cheap no problem.
5. Seasonal Hustle
Story: Take advantage of different seasons to make money
How: Example Christmas, father day, mothers day
– One woman in the book decided to write a personal letter to kids for 20 bucks a letter and makes on average of 6k everything Christmas. ( pretty nice)
An idea I have: Environmental Friendly online Vegan store, where all the products are plastics free, and a portion gets donated to charity
Final thoughts
The key to business is solving a problem and providing great customer service.
