Black Soil KY is an agribusiness that was founded in 2017. Since its founding, Black Soil has invested $1.5 M into various Black entrepreneurships in the commonwealth. Black farmers, chefs, and makers account for 1.4% in the KY agriculture industry.

The food provided to the event was grown and prepared by Black farmers in Kentucky.

“You’re one of our target markets. Healthy households, local restaurants, institutions like Georgetown. We greatly appreciate Chef Miguel working with us. Often times dining services within our institutions have contracts that are very rigid, and don’t offer any space for local products — which means local impact is being lost. So, when we can come in and do special events and work our way in, we’re greatly appreciative,” said Smith.
